EXHIBITION | OPENING INFORMATION |

Henry Moore explored themes related to the sea not only in his sculptures, but also in his drawings and graphic works. These form the exhibition in Dieppe , which unites with the maritime themes of the collections in the Château-Musée de Dieppe. The exhibition also shows a number of marine objects from Moore 's studio. Seashells and bones washed smooth by the sea were sometimes included in his maquettes for larger sculptures. Forms were also taken from cliff and rock formations. Moore made figure drawings in beach locations; these and further maritime subjects were also expressed in his prints.

The medieval Château-Musée de Dieppe is built high on the western clifftop overlooking the town and harbour of Dieppe . Together with the churches of St Rémy and St Jacques, it survived the Anglo-Dutch bombardment of 1694, and is the repository of works of art and artefacts related to the maritime history of Dieppe , which includes an important collection of ivory carvings and the complete archive of the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns.
