Major Sponsor joins the team
As part of their 100 th Anniversary this year, Brewers have joined the team working on Henry Moore Land and Sea, making a significant financial contribution to the project.
Brewers are the UK 's largest independent suppliers of decorating materials, and are based in Sussex .
Brewers' sponsorship together with funds from Interreg and further sponsorship from local businesses, including Elephant House, has provided funding for exhibitions and educational programmes. Deputy Chairman of Brewers, Mark Brewer, says ‘We are pleased to help this major cultural and educational event in Lewes.' Local philanthropy of this kind has again enabled Lewes to play a leading role in the cultural life of the south east of England .
The scope of the project includes educational collaboration between Sussex Down College and the Lycée Émulation Dieppoise and exhibitions in Lewes Town Hall , Charleston , Thebes Gallery, Lewes and the Crypt Gallery Seaford and the Château Musée de Dieppe creating a climate of positive regional and international cooperation.
Major sculptures by Henry Moore, including his source material, plaster and bronze maquettes, bronze and plaster working models and two monumental travertine marble carvings will be exhibited in Lewes Town Hall , 3July – 31 August; while Charleston is hosting an exhibition of Moore 's graphics 4 July – 29 August. Both exhibitions look at Moore 's development with works on landscape themes. Exhibitions at the Crypt and Thebes galleries will focus on processes post Moore , with exhibitions of artists working with sonic form and digital graphics – processes that were not available when Moore was a working sculptor. The artists, David Carter and Jo Watson are creating a sound sculpture based on Moore 's practice of enlarging sculpture for the Crypt Gallery throughout July, while Isabel Estrada-Albiol is exploring Moore 's internationalism in digital print at Thebes in August. In Dieppe sculptures, drawings and graphics by Henry Moore have been selected on the strength of the maritime themes to be found in his work. This exhibition echoes the maritime collections for which the Château Musée de Dieppe is renowned. The dates for this exhibition are 10 July – 3 October.
All sculptures, and works on paper in the Henry Moore exhibitions are drawn from the collections of The Henry Moore Foundation, which is also providing massive help in kind in all aspects of the project.
Sculpture Exhibitions Limited working in partnership with Lewes Town and District Councils, Sussex Down College and the Lycée Émulation Dieppoise, the Château Musée de Dieppe, The Henry Moore Foundation and Sponsors, welcomes further sponsors and those interested in working as volunteer guides in Lewes during the exhibition.
